Now that the weather is cooler, we are back to desert hiking in New Mexico. Our first outing was to the Piedra Lumbre Arroyo and canyons area about 65 miles northwest of Albuquerque. We have been there many times, occasionally leading NM Mountain Club groups, enjoying the colorful canyons, sandstone formations and variety of hoodoos.
The weather was gorgeous! Obviously cloudless skies from the pictures,, with temperatures starting at 41 degrees in the morning rising to the low 50's in the afternoon. 7+ miles and just a little up and down moving between canyons. Great to be out wandering around since this was our first hike since the Southern Utah trip.
