Ah Shi Sle Pah North Exploratory December 2020
Ah She Sle Pah is a Wilderness Study Area in the San Juan Basin Northwest of Albuquerque. Obviously a Native American name! It's about 140 miles from home, making for a long day.
We've been to Ah Shi Sle Pah many times and have led several NM Mountain Club hikes to the area. It is a great badlands area with lots of unique sandstone formations, hoodoos, and petrified wood.
Weather was mostly sunny and in the 40's with leftover snow here and there. A good breeze at times kept it chilly! This was a new part of the WSA for us, thus the exploratory designation. Our hike was about 7 miles and pretty easy due to not much up and down. Easy on the feet with the soft ground. All in all a great hike day!
