The big goal for our last two Colorado "weekends" was Fall Color, and we achieved that goal in spades!  You will notice a predominant yellow hue in most of the images below.  With the advent of fall, we stayed in motels instead of sleeping in the truck.  Just a bit more comfortable in the cooler weather!  You will also note a good bit of West Coast smoke on the horizon in many of the images.  Ugh!

First weekend was in Leadville at the Rodeway Inn.  Good dinners at Moonshine Pizza in Salida on the way up and the Tennessee Pass Cafe in Leadville (exact same meal we had back in June!).  Great weather all weekend.

Monday's hike was to Saint Kevin and Bear Lakes.  This was a re-hike of June's attempt, when we couldn't get to Saint Kevin's due to the snow.  As you can see, no problem this time.  We are suckers for high mountain lakes.

Tuesday morning's hike was another re-hike from June, but a shorter version, to the Lily Ponds.  We had noticed the abundance of Aspens so thought it would be a good fall hike.  And we were right!

The second trip was to Crested Butte Colorado, the first weekend in October.  The area around and west of Crested Butte is known for it's extensive Aspen groves, thus extraordinary fall color.  We monitored a town website that gives fall color timing information and definitely hit the peak in the Kebler and Ohio Pass areas!

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Gunnison south of Crested Butte, which is also known as being expensive.  The longer drives to our hikes were not an issue with great scenery all the way.  We had a big meal at the Sherpa Cafe Sunday night, then good pizza and salad at the High Alpine Brewery the next night.

Monday we hiked the Cliff Creek and Beckwith Bench trails.  Wow, yellow and orange Aspen groves as far as you could see!  Beautiful mountains as the back drop.  Tuesday's shorter hike was part of the Dark Canyon trail to a viewpoint.  And what a view!  Marcellina Mountain and miles and miles of Aspens.  We can now agree that the Crested Butte area is most definitely the fall color capital of Colorado!
