An August Colorado hiking weekend. We planned to truck camp (sleep in the truck) for two nights at the Little Molas Trailhead off Molas Pass. It has a restroom! However it rained a good bit the first night and some the next day, getting our boots soaked, so the second night was at the Days Inn in Durango.
We skipped the 13er planned for the first hike day due to the weather and hiked the Pass Creek trail to the base of Engineer Mountain instead. Gorgeous fields of wildflowers with lots of variety! Off and on drizzle but no hard rain. We did have our rain gear on and pack covers, but the boots still got wet. We will go back on a good weather day.
Second hike day was two shorter hikes: Potato Lake (aka Spud Lake) was about a two and a half mile walk. No wind so great reflections in the water. Saw several beaver lodges but no beavers. Second hike I'll call the Lower Cascade Creek trail. Again, gorgeous fields of wildflowers, some very unique! Three and a half to four miles long.
Both evening dinners in Durango at two different brew pubs and patios. Good food and good libations.
