Colorado Weekend August 25-27, 2018

This was another two night truck camp.  It was very cozy in the truck and much better than in a tent since it rained heavily both nights!

We ate dinner in Durango Saturday night at Carvers Brew Pub.  Very good Thai Curry Quinoa with Salmon for Stef and a Buffalo Burger for Tom.  Then about an hour drive to the Transfer Campground and trailhead (with restrooms).

Sunday started off sunny and we had a good hike up to Sharkstooth Pass at ~12,000 feet.  We originally planned to climb Centennial Peak from the pass, but the loose scree didn't look like a lot of fun so we skipped the peak.  The gorgeous mountain with colored layers is Hesperus. Since the hike was less than planned, we did a couple of shorter hikes back at the campground to get our daily total up to 8 miles.

We drove back though Durango and north towards Silverton.  A very nice cocktail hour overlooking Little Molas Lake!  Then into Silverton for another good dinner at the Avalanche Brew Pub:  Mediterranean Pizza and Spinach Salad.  Then back to the Little Molas Lake trailhead for the night.

Monday morning started off cloudy and wet, but soon started to clear.  We did a 6+ mile hike on the Colorado Trail east past "Big" Molas Lake.  Gorgeous lake and mountain views.  Several images of Spencer and Grand Turk peaks, 13ers we climbed in 2015.  On the drive back to ABQ, we stopped for Blizzards at the Aztec Dairy Queen.  Arrived Traders Joe's in ABQ around 5pm.
